I’ve had the opportunity to work with Ben both at Abbott and Micro Focus. Ben’s enthusiasm to learn and support the team is unmatched both in technical and collaborative capacities. Ben keeps the big picture in mind, he’s a team player and often goes above the call of duty.

I have had Ben as a student in two of my biotechnology courses.  He has consistently impressed me with his professionalism, thoughtfulness and creativity. Ben is a bright student who connects the dots, and goes beyond the course material to show his understanding of  how biotechnology is applied in the world.

I had the pleasure of supervising Ben during a four month work term at Natural Resources Canada. Ben is a quick learner, able to learn new techniques with ease. His work under quality control regimes is impeccable, and his ability to juggle multiple tasks and deadlines is beyond his peers.

Personal Profile

I am a university graduate with a B.Sc degree in Biochemistry from Carleton University. Although I love biochemistry, when I am not in school, I am learning about computer programming and business.

My interdisciplinary passion to combine biochemistry with computer science and business is what drives me to learn more every day. I cannot imagine a future for me that does not involve continuous learning. I consider my identity that of "the learner" as both life sciences and computer sciences have new fascinating discoveries daily.

My hunger for excellence and determination to turn information into action has contributed to my most recent accomplishment at the collaborated National Research Council Canada & Carleton University, "Biotechnology Internship". There, students were asked to attend four days of education in science, technology, and business to develop a cancer-fighting antibody which the students would form groups and start a "business". Once the four days were over, we were asked to present our product, technology, and business model to a panel of research scientists who would pick a winner. As the appointed CEO of our company, I took it upon myself to go above and beyond what was needed by producing business cards and making a website. I am proud to say our team won the competition and was invited back to the NRC to present our business and website to the rest of the department.

When I'm not learning more about programming through machine learning or browsing the web for new scientific discoveries, I enjoy biking, swimming, soccer, volleyball, and video games.

I believe my passion for science and technology outweighs my experience and I strive always to be better today than I was yesterday.

I am currently working at the Public Health Agency of Canada as a Data Analyst but if you would like to reach out, email me at ben.butmir@hotmail.com to connect!
